Overview of the approval process and simple steps to approval
|
Guidance to Manufacturers, Suppliers and Test Laboratories on the Application Requirements for WRAS Product Approval The WRAS Approval Scheme has existed for many years with its requirements set out in various documents, some available to test laboratories, some placed on the website or kept in the Scheme files and with some details kept by the administrators of the Scheme. To enable a clear understanding of how a product is assessed and to assist test laboratories, manufacturers and anyone else with an interest to have access to the ‘rules’ governing WRAS Approvals and to provide clarity and consistency of the WRAS Approval Scheme, the WRAS Technical Committee has asked that comprehensive written Guidance should be published on the WRAS website. The Guidance has been prepared by WRAS staff in consultation with test laboratory staff and others experienced in the testing of products. Much of the Guidance has been prepared simply by writing down and putting into a logical order the practices which have been followed for years. In a few cases a choice has been made between different versions of a requirement and in some areas there has been a definition of requirements for the first time. Overall, the aims have been to provide unambiguous guidance on how a product should be assessed for WRAS Approval and to ensure that a WRAS-Approved product complies with the requirements of the Regulations to be ‘of an appropriate quality and standard’ to give reliable service over an adequate lifetime. The ‘Guidance’ sets out how products should be assessed and by whom, how already-approved materials or components can assist in gaining an approval for an assembly or appliance, how an application should be submitted to WRAS and how alterations or amendments to an Approval can be obtained. It has been endorsed by the WRAS Test and Assessment Group which undertakes the granting of approvals and approved by the WRAS Technical Committee. It is expected that as experience shows it is needed, the Guidance may be altered and updated from time to time. The current version will always be the one which is available on the Scheme’s website. Any comments about the Guidance will be welcomed and can be submitted via the email address “info@wras.co.uk”.
