WRAS Team

WRAS is a small organisation of 14 staff, based in Wales. The structure of WRAS can be found here. The WRAS Managing Director is Julie Spinks.


WRAS is organised into four sections.  

WRAS Approvals & Technical Enquiries Service

The Scheme provides a technical enquiry service, which offers free advice regarding the interpretation and application of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Water Byelaws.

The WRAS Approvals team administers the WRAS Approvals Scheme on behalf of the UK Water Supply Industry. The team is responsible for publishing the on-line Water Fittings & Materials Directory. 

The Approvals and Technical Enquiry Service Manager is Jason Furnival. Jason is also the secretary of the Product Assessment Group (PAG).

Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme (WIAPS)

The WIAPS team administers and promotes the WIAPS approval scheme on behalf of seventeen water suppliers in England & Wales. It also provides training and encourages good plumbing practice.

The WIAPS Manager is Gareth Harris.

Technical Support

The Technical Support team engages with water suppliers and represents them with external stakeholder organisations to promote and encourages compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Water Byelaws. The team liaises with key stakeholders, coordinates the publication of technical interpretations, delivers presentations and facilitates the development of relevant publications. 

It also participates in the development of British and European Standards on behalf of the UK Water Supply Industry. 

Catherine Powell, Water Company Liaison is the primary contact for water company regulation teams.  Catherine is also the secretary for the Technical Committee and the Technical Support Groups.

Paul Millard, Technical Manager is the primary contact for trade and professional organisations.

Marketing and Communications

Marketing and communications covers activities to effectively promote the water fittings regulations and the WRAS approval schemes. This includes maintaining the website, developing WRAS newsletters and writing articles for publication in trade and professional magazines and journals.
