Where an RPZ valve (Type BA device) is no longer required to provide backflow protection it can either be removed or left in place. If it is left in place then to comply with Regulation 4 it must be maintained and tested in a workmanlike manner. That is to say in compliance with Regulation 4(5) maintained and tested in accordance with the requirements set out in AIM 8-01 issue 1 ‘Water Suppliers’ Approved Installation Method : Requirements for installation, on-site testing and maintenance’ or in accordance with an alternative appropriate specification that provides an equivalent level or protection and performance.
Please note that the water supplier’s consent for the installation of the RPZ valve may have included specific conditions relating its testing and maintenance which must be adhered to.
