A unique reference directory of fittings,
materials and appliances approved for their compliance with the UK
plumbing regulations by the UK Water Suppliers, using the performance
requirements set out by the Secretary of State at the Department for
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The popular Water Fittings and Materials Directory used throughout the
UK water industry is now provided as an on-line, searchable database for
which no subscription is necessary. The database is updated regularly so
that the latest information is readily available to users.
Water fittings or appliances with WRAS Approved Product status have been
assessed and approved by representatives of the UK Water Suppliers
themselves – the same authorities which have the legal duty to enforce
the regulations and make day-to-day decisions about the acceptability of
fittings. Where an appropriate WRAS Approved water fitting or appliance
is installed in accordance with any installations conditions, it should
meet the requirements of Regulation (Byelaw) 4 for being “of an
appropriate quality and standard”.
The WATER REGULATIONS ADVISORY SCHEME Ltd is funded by all the UK Water
Suppliers and is operated independently of water fittings test
laboratories. The Scheme employs its own staff to administer the WRAS
Approvals process from its offices in South Wales. WRAS also publicises
and promotes consistent interpretation of the Water Supply (Water
Fittings) Regulations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the
Scottish Water Byelaws.
